The Zohar, the 'bible of the
Kabbalah' - states Jews
must sacrifice a goat to Satan
every new moon.
"Come and see: Every
single new moon, as the moon is renewed, this End of all flesh is given
one portion over and above the offerings, to keep him occupied handling his
portion, so that the aspect of Israel is alone to delight with their King. This
is the goat (According to Numbers 28:15, on each new moon a goat must be
brought as a sin-offering. Here, this goat is intended to preoccupy
Satan, leaving Israel alone with God.)"- Zohar 1:65a
